Dead horses
For a post-battle scene in the film Napoleon several dead horse props were made by myself and a small team led by Annabel Tait.
The horse’s ears and legs were cast and attached to rigid bases. They were then flocked, artworked and finished with manes and tails that we made.

The horses started as hard bases with missing top legs and ears. You can see one soft leg attached here.

The foam legs and ears are attached, blended into the body and then painted black.

The horses were then flocked with multiple colours to give realistic looking horse coats.

The direction of the fur growth was laid in shortly after flocking.

Once dry the excess flock was brushed off to reveal the true colours.

There were a variety of colours.

After flocking the hooves and eyes were artworked.

We made manes and tails for each horse.
